I love the theatre. I’ve been going to see plays, musicals and ballets of all scales and productions since I was very very little courtesy of my mum. The love was bred young and still remains. The new theatre season opened recently and I’ve been frothing at the mouth at everything that is on stage for my viewing pleasure. These are the ones I’d like to see:
- Waiting For Godot at STC. The director of STC’s Uncle Vanya which I saw last year, with Hugo Weaving who was in that production also. One of my favourite plays of all time, I’m probably the most excited about this than any other. Existentialism just tickles the right spot, as does Samuel Beckett.
- Angels In America at Belvoir. AIA is such an amazing script, the TV adaptation was phenomenal. I can’t wait to see how they stage it, I can’t imagine it would be easy. Just writing this is making me bubble in anticipation.
- Semele Walk at Sydney Festival. I am so intrigued by this. Semele is one of Handel’s least performed operas. The costume design was done by Vivienne Westwood (swoon), which considering this year’s baroque fashion trend and Handel being a baroque composer, this production is sure to be mind blowing.
There’s a few others, including of course the obligatory Shakespearean production which I can never resist, but those three are the ones that really stood out to me the most. Anyone else keen on season 2013?
